Nearly 20 kilometres from Salalah Airport, Salalah Beach spreads over an area of 15.6 million square metres of which 8.2 kilometres is beach front. Currently only 9.5 million square metres will be developed, leaving large stretches of open space and natural splendour intact.
The destination will comprise luxurious freehold properties, residences including villas and apartments with breathtaking views, two 18-hole PGA Golf courses, five 5-star hotels, two marina boutique hotels, an inland 200 berth marina and marina town, retail venues, restaurants and cafes.
Expected to complete in two years and eight months, this multi-billion project is anticipated to generate thousands of job opportunities direct and indirect thus helping the ongoing Omanisation drive to reach further heights. "More foreign investment and key players in the international foray descending in Salalah would definitely create thousands of employment opportunities for the Omani youngsters and would highly benefit the economy as a whole", Dr Rajha bint Abdulameer bin Ali, Minister of Tourism, told the Observer.
Dr Rajha added that this partnership is very much welcomed by the Ministry of Tourism who aim to develop the tourism sector and attract international visitors to Oman.Muriya Tourism Development has selected a range of hotels and resorts to enhance the atmosphere of the area and capitalise on the beauty of the Omani coast. Rotana and Movenpick Hotels and Resorts, along with Club Med and other international hotels, are some of them.
"The beauty of Salalah has been attracting international tourists for many years and the addition of Club Med to the Salalah Beach Development will add a new level of world class accommodation resort", Samih Sawiris, Chairman, Muriya Tourism Development said. Built along the sea shore and around lagoons, it is also one of the most picturesque and sought after destinations in the GCC, enjoying a temperate climate through most of the year, and rainfall due to the south-east monsoon also known as the 'Khareef season'.
