Hilton set to open its first hotel in Saudi capital   21 Jan 2010

Global hotel chain Hilton Worldwide has announced plans to open its first branded hotel in the Saudi capital of Riyadh in three years' time.

The 830-room, new build hotel is set for opening during the fourth quarter of 2013, the company said in a statement on Wednesday.

The Hilton Riyadh Hotel & Residence will feature two towers; one 20-storeys high with 480 rooms and the other 14-storeys high with 350 hotel apartments.

Our goal has always been to have a Hilton branded property in every capital city around the world, so we are delighted to have signed this management agreement marking our Hilton entry into Riyadh,” said Ian Carter, President, Global Operations, Hilton Worldwide.

“There is growing demand for hotel accommodation in the capital from the business and corporate travel segments making Riyadh the perfect choice for us.”

The hotel will be located next to the Granada Centre, one of the city’s largest shopping malls and the Riyadh International Conference Centre, and the King Abdullah Financial District, the future home of the Saudi Stock Exchange.

"We wanted to work with an internationally recognised hotel brand that matches our ambition to provide world-class hotel facilities and services to a growing city," said Soliman Bin Saad Al-Humayyd, governor of the General Organisation for Social Insurance.
