Starwood eyes Abu Dhabi, Doha for luxury hotels   09 Mar 2010

Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide on Tuesday said it plans to open four properties in the Middle East under its ultimate luxury lifestyle brand, St Regis.

The company said the top-end hotels were slated to open over the next five years, including two in Abu Dhabi, one in Doha and one in Cairo.

The announcement was part of the group's plans to open 50 new hotels in its Europe, Africa and Middle East (EAME) division by 2012.

Simon Turner, president of Global Development, said: “There are still numerous markets in this vast division where we have an opportunity to launch our nine distinct and compelling brands.”

The company added that it is also embarking on a $275 million renovation programme of existing Sheraton hotels in the next three years, such as a multi-million dollar refurbishment of the Sheraton Oman, which is due to re-open in autumn 2010.
