Cutting Carbon
Dubai is moving to cut the emirate's carbon footprint - one of the world's highest on a per capita basis.

The hospitality sector is taking note and seeking to reduce or limit energy consumption.



According to Markus Oberlin of UAE-Swiss joint venture Farnek Avireal, major hotel chains are calling the company in to help them go green by trimming energy and water costs, reducing carbon dioxide emissions across their properties.

"It is a complex machine, the design of which is an exact science. Every little detail has to work. Quite often the design is approached purely for aesthetics without considering the functional or guest needs," he said.
